Motherhood. It is one of the most amazing and challenging journeys that I have ever embarked on. Throughout each of my pregnancies, I am tormented by the awful pregnancy condition Hyperemesis Gravidarum (yep, the same as Kate Middleton). If you have some knowledge of medical terminology, then you can dissect that hyper means excessive, and emesis, well you get the picture. This leaves me glued to the sofa with a bucket for a best friend, unable to care for my family or myself.
The wonderful part of having a baby is, of course, hearing that sweet boisterous cry as they enter the world, but for me, it also means that Hyperemesis will soon be packing its bags. Just as Hyperemesis leaves, it is replaced by its dear relatives sleep deprivation and sweat-pants-itis due in part to a new baby, but also because I am a mompreneur who also homeschools a child on the spectrum.
Self-care can become incredibly sparse when your life is so busy. Date nights, while not directly a form of self-care allows for my co-parent and partner in life to reconnect with each other away from parental responsibility for a few hours. However, there is nothing like the blow to your self-confidence that comes from that first clothing deliberation in your closet. You want to look cute and fashionable, but this shirt is too short, those pants are too tight, and that dress squeezes in all the wrong places which make your nursing bra print very obvious.
At this point, most people would head to the mall, but as a woman who is plus-sized shopping can be an anxiety-producing experience. There’s the hunting down of the stores that actually sell plus-sized clothing that also fits your personal style, and then the process of trying items on, all while trying not to cry because the whole process makes you feel awful.
But what if there was an easier way? What if you could browse items for your entire wardrobe, from shoes that are actually made to accommodate plus-size feet, to shapewear to smooth our those wonderful curves, and everything in between? That’s where my friends at Eloquii come in!
Browsing the Eloquii website, I was greeted by women who had bodies that looked like mine, slaying these fashion-forward designs. This inspired me to try new styles that I would not have explored previously because I would have worried that it looked good on the model who was “average” sized, but it would look wrong on my body.
When that black and while Eloquii package arrived on my doorstep I was so excited to try everything on, and I was not disappointed. Having these new pieces from Eloquii helped get me out of my shell, and when it was time for Date Night, I was fully prepared. Instead of having to give myself a pep talk, or constantly pull at my clothes because they didn’t fit, I instead got to focus all of my energy on feeling FABULOUS.
